Diaz Arrives In Montreal.

New York Times 100 years ago today, August 20, 1913:
Tells Canadians He Thinks Wilson Will Change to Mexico.
MONTREAL, Aug. 19.— Gen. Felix Diaz of Mexico arrived here to-night on his way to Europe. He will pass to-morrow in this city, leaving it in the evening for Quebec to board the Empress of Ireland, which will carry him to Liverpool.
The General is optimistic as to the future of his country, and inclined to the belief that the present impasse! with the United States should not be taken too seriously. He does not think Washington will insist on its attitude of non-recognition, and he believes that President Wilson eventually will come to view the situation in a different light.
Gen. Diaz stated he would be a candidate for the Presidency of the Mexican Republic at the election in October. His friends are working in his behalf and he expects to return to his country several weeks before the election is held.
