Mexicans In Hot Battle.

New York Times 100 years ago today, August 17, 1913:
Fighting at Rodriguez — Peace Advocate Seeks Gov. Carranza.
EAGLE PASS, Texas, Aug. 16.— According to reports received at Piedras Negras, Constitutionalist headquarters, the Federal and Constitutionalist armies, exhausted after two days of desperate fighting at Rodriguez, Mexico ceased hostilities late to-night, with neither side having a decisive advantage. It is reported both sides lost heavily.
Several thousand men were engaged in the fight. Ammunition and supplies were sent to the Constitutionalists this afternoon aboard a special train, which is expected 10 return with the wounded.
Henry Allen Tupper, President of the American Peace Forum, who bears a proposal for peace, the nature of which he has not disclosed, announced to-day that he would seek permission from Constitutionalists to make a trip to the interior of Mexico and submit his proposal to Gov. Venustiano Carranza.
Dr. Tupper presented his plan to Col. Jesus Carranza, brother of the Governor, in a lengthy conference this afternoon. Col. Carranza promised a reply to-morrow.
