Powers To Coerce Turkey.

New York Times 100 years ago today, August 8, 1913:
Take First Steps to Compel Her to Evacuate Adrianople.
LONDON, Friday. Aug. 8.— The representatives of the European Powers took the first step at Constantinople yesterday to compel Turkey to evacuate the fortress at Adrianople, which Ottoman troops reoccupied after war began between the former Balkan allies. The diplomatic body demanded that the Turkish Government respect the treaty signed in London between the former belligerents. It is asserted in diplomatic circles that the contemplated action of the Powers, in the event of the present demand made by them proving futile, will be such as to render further hostilities between Bulgaria and Turkey unnecessary.

SOFIA, Aug. 7.— The Bulgarian Government has notified the representatives of the powers in Sofia of its intention to demobilize the army immediately the peace treaty is signed and to rely upon the powers to take measures to induce Turkey to withdraw within the Enos-Midia line and respect the treaty of London.
