Rebels Hold Nanking.

New York Times 100 years ago today, August 27, 1913:
Northern Cavalry That Entered the City Blown Up by a Mine.
LONDON, Wednesday, Aug. 27.— A dispatch early yesterday to the Exchange Telegraph Company stated that Nanking, the last stronghold of the Chinese rebels, had been captured by Government troops.
A later dispatch to the same company, however, says that the assertion made by a Northern General, that Nanking had fallen is untrue.
Some Northern cavalry entered the town, it is added, but were blown up by a mine. The attack on the city continues.
