Slaughter Federal Force.

New York Times 100 years ago today, October 11, 1912:
Mexican Rebels Annihilate Col. Tello's Detachment of 150 Men.
LAREDO, Texas, Oct. 10.— A rebel force of 1,800 men under the leadership of Cheche Campos practically annihilated a force of 150 Federals near Herma, between Jiminez and Torreon late yesterday, according to advices received here. Of the Federal force only 17, it is said, escaped.
Among the dead are four officers, including Col. Tello, who commanded the Federals. After killing Tello the rebels hanged his body to a telegraph pole. Eighteen Federals were captured and their ears cut off. Liberty was offered the Federal flag bearer, if he would surrender the flag, which he kept after he was captured. He refused and was shot.
The Federals were marching on the public road in a wooded section, according to the report, when the rebels appeared on both sides and in front. The Federals are reported to have inflicted severe loss on the rebels but the number killed is not known.
