Turkey And The Powers.

New York Times 100 years ago today, November 14, 1912:
To the Editor of The New York Times:
Under the caption of "The Peace of Europe" The Times remarks editorially that "they [the powers] require in substance autonomy for the European provinces of Turkey, with guarantees of equal rights under Christian Governors selected by the powers," and after admitting that "it would lead logically to the independence of the provinces," It asks: "To this what is the valid objection?" None whatever, of course, save as there would be — and not a whit more — if the allied powers should march an army into Russian Poland and compel reforms on behalf of the oppressed Poles suffering under the aegis of Russia, or if they should make Ireland their destination, and desire, for example, to select the next Lord Lieutenant instead of allowing Britain to busy herself with that superfluous task!
