Rebels Defeat Rurales.

New York Times 100 years ago today, October 5, 1912:
Twenty Killed In Engagement Near Jerez, Mexico.
MEXICO CITY, Oct. 4.— A band of rebels to-day defeated 200 rurales in Northern Zacatecas, near Jerez, killing twenty-two of them and capturing fourteen, according to advices received here. Official confirmation of the fight is lacking, however.
No great damage has been done to the Angangreo mine of the American Smelting and Refining Company, located in Southern Michoacan, since the manager of the mine acceded to the demands of the rebels for money, arms, and supplies.
A censorship has been placed on all the land wires, and dispatches must be scrutinized by the War Department before they are accepted for transmission.
