New York Times 100 years ago today, October 20, 1912:
Ex-Sultan Will Be Transferred Back to Constantinople.
CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct. 19.— The transfer of ex-Sultan Abdul Hamed from the place where he has been confined in Salonika to Constantinople was sanctioned by the Sultan to-day after the Council of Ministers had decided on the step.
Several efforts have been made to bring Abdul Hamid back since his deposition, on April 27, 1909, but these have always been frustrated.
The former Sultan is said to be very ill, and the reason given for his transfer is that he will receive better medical attendance in the capital.
The press regard his transfer now as inopportune.
