Insane Man Lies Down on Stick of Dynamite and Lights Fuse.
Special to The New York Times.
MIDDLETOWN, June 30.— Lying down upon a stick of dynamite in his dooryard at Burnt Mills yesterday, Floyd Tiffany touched a match to the fuse and was blown to atoms. The young man — he was 23 — had been acting queerly of late and it is believed that he was insane. He had a quarrel with his father yesterday, and, packing up his clothes, said he intended to leave home. When his mother tried to dissuade him from leaving, he showed the stick of dynamite to her and threatened to blow up the house. A few minutes later he went into the yard and in plain view from the window where his mother was sitting lay down upon the dynamite and lighted the fuse. Mrs. Tiffany saw her son's hat fly into the air, following the explosion, and running out found parts of his body strewn about the yard.
