New York Times 100 years ago today, August 12, 1913:
Representative in Honolulu on Way to Inspect Big Purchase.
HONOLULU, Aug. 11.— Col. De Aleman of the Mexican Army arrived here yesterday on the Japanese steamer Buyo Maru from Manzanillo, Mexico, on his way to Japan, where he will inspect 75,000 rifles purchased by the Mexican provisional Government to be used in the war against the Constitutionalists.
Col. de Aleman was disappointed in not meeting Felix Diaz here, as he had expected to go with him to Japan.
Fellow-passengers who had talked with Col. de Aleman said that he, and not Gen. Diaz, is President Huerta's diplomatic representative to Japan.
