C. R. Crane Lauds Wilson.

New York Times 100 years ago today, July 16, 1912:
Most Desirable Candidate for President Since Cleveland, He Says.
Special to The New York Times.
CHICAGO, July 15.— "I will stand by Gov. Wilson, both financially and morally, and will do anything in my power to make his candidacy successful," said Charles K. Crane, wealthy manufacturer of this city and former supporter of Senator La Follette, upon his return from a visit to Gov. Woodrow Wilson at Sea Girt, N. J.
"There is one thing that I wish to emphasize and that is the campaign of Woodrow Wilson is as notable as his selection," said Mr. Crane. "I believe him to be the most desirable candidate for President that we have had since Grover Cleveland. He is a man of sterling qualities, is fair and decisive. I have always been a Progressive and I supported Wilson and La Follette alike, and I am glad that one of them has been chosen as a candidate.
"I know Wilson, his ability. I know his character and know his principles and it is a case of a big, broad man to cope with the complicated questions of the present time."
