No Third Party In Ohio.

New York Times 100 years ago today, July 16, 1912:
Roosevelt to Run Strictly as an Independent Candidate.
Special to The New York Times.
CLEVELAND, Ohio, July 15.— James R. Garfield said to-day that the Roosevelt programme in Ohio would be determined at conferences to be held this week. It has been practically agreed, Mr, Garfield explained, that Roosevelt would run in Ohio as an Independent Republican, and not as the head of a third party. This is good news to candidates on the Republican State and county tickets. It means there will be no third State or county ticket put in the race.
The decision to run Col. Roosevelt as an independent in Ohio will, it is expected, rally to his support all the forces that fought for him in the primaries and at the Chicago Convention. His friends believe that, with the Colonel running independently the real race in Ohio next Fall will be between Wilson and Roosevelt, with. Taft third.
If present plans are carried out the names of twenty-four Presidential Electors who are pledged to Roosevelt will be placed on the ballot in one column, but the name of Roosevelt will not appear on the ballot. To vote for Roosevelt it will be necessary to vote for each of the twenty-four Electors.
