Fight Roosevelt Electors.

New York Times 100 years ago today, July 16, 1912:
Maryland Republicans Will Try to Oust Them from Their Ticket.
Special to The New York Tunes.
BALTIMORE, Md., July 15.— Chairman John B. Hanna of the Republican State Central Committee will call a conference of Maryland Republicans favorable to the election of President Taft. The conference has been prompted by the presence on the ticket in Maryland of Republican candidates for Electors, who were nominated by the regular Republican Convention on the theory that they would be representatives of the candidate nominated by the regular party convention, but who declare that they will support Col. Roosevelt.
The friends of the President declare that the honor of those elected friendly to Col. Roosevelt is involved and that they should retire from the ticket at the regular State Convention which will be called after the so-called third party National Convention acts in Chicago. If the Roosevelt Electors do not voluntarily withdraw the Convention will be asked to reconsider its action by which they were placed on the ticket. The way will thus be paved to supplant the third party Electors with candidates whose loyalty to the President is not questioned.
It was brought out to-day that the State law forbids a fusion ticket, as such a ticket would be that contained electors favorable in part to the President and in part to Col. Roosevelt. Under this law it also would be impossible, to adopt the same electors on the Roosevelt and Taft tickets, as the law forbids the same name appearing oftener than once.
