Jersey Progressives In Line.

New York Times 100 years ago today, July 13, 1912:
Decide to Adopt Whatever Name Is Chosen at Chicago Aug. 5.
At a turbulent meeting of the Progressive Republican League of New Jersey in Newark last night, a resolution was passed providing that the organization change its name to whatever name be adopted at the Roosevelt Third Party convention in Chicago on Aug. 5 Edmund B. Osborn of Montclair presided and the question up for settlement was whether the organization should go over to the Third Party. Former State Senator Everett Colby precipitated action by introducing a resolution providing for the elimination of the word "Republican" from the title of the organization, and that its members cease their affiliation with the Republican Party. This was withdrawn and a substitute offered providing that the change of name be deferred until after the National Committee of the Progressives authorized the change.
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Roosevelt League of New Jersey was held in the Newark offices of former Gov. Port in the afternoon, and July 23 was decided upon as the date of the mass convention to be held in the New Auditorium in Asbury Park to elect delegates at large from New Jersey to the Chicago Convention. Mr. Fort will preside at the convention. Special trains for those who desire to attend will be run on that day from Camden and from Jersey City, making all stops to Asbury Park.
