New York Times 100 years ago today, July 13, 1912:
Parker No Longer the Democratic Boss of Louisiana.
Special to The New York Times.
NEW ORLEANS. La., July 12.—Because he signed the call for the third party convention, John M. Parker no longer is Democratic boss of Louisiana. Donelson Caffery, prominent in New Orleans politics for many years, succeeds him.
Officially, Parker resigned as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Good Government League. The league recently swept the State in a primary election, seating its candidate for Governor, and practically obtaining full control of the party, machinery.
Mr. Parker's espousal of the cause of Col. Roosevelt, and his formal alignment with the Bull Moose Party, stirred up a row, and at the meeting of the Executive Committee on last Monday night, Mr. Parker submitted his resignation. Tonight it was accepted.
