Six Sailors Arrested, in Vera Cruz — Released with Apology.
VERA CRUZ, March 1.— The arrest by Federal soldiers early to-day of six American seamen from the Ward liner Monterey following the firing of a shot near the Custom House called forth a vigorous protest against that arbitrary action of the military authorities from William W. Canada, American Consul here.
Thereupon the men were released and an apology was offered by the military commander. Evidence showed the sailors all were unarmed and sober.
