Austria Backs Britain.

New York Times 100 years ago today, September 2, 1912:
Arbitration Idea Unripe if It Fails in Canal Issue, Says Paper.
VIENNA, Sept. 1.— The newspapers here are supporting the British view of the Panama Canal act. The official Freudenblatt says that if arbitration should fail in a case so peculiarly adapted to it, and between such friendly nations as the United States and Great Britain, it may be doubted whether the time is ripe for the arbitration idea.
Die Zeitung suggests retaliatory measures against the United States by European countries because of the alleged discrimination of the act in favor of American shipping.
