Japanese Warships Will Escort the Maryland Into the Harbor.
TOKIO, Monday, Sept. 9.— The United States armored cruiser Maryland, carrying Philander C. Knox, the American Secretary of State, and his party, will anchor in Yokohama Harbor at 3 o'clock this afternoon, according to a wireless message received from the commander of the warship. Mr. Knox will attend the funeral of the Emperor as the special representative of the united States.
The Maryland will be convoyed by the Japanese battleship Fuji and the armored cruisers Iwate and Tokiwa. Brig. Gen. John A. Pershing, commander of the Department of Mindanao, Philippines, who was assigned as the military attaché of the embassy at Tokio, will be the first to board the Maryland to welcome Mr. Knox and his party.
On landing, the Secretary of State will be received at the pier by the Governor, Mayor, and other notables, as well as many American, residents of Yokohama.
The Secretary will leave for Tokio at 5 o'clock, and will be ceremoniously received there by the representatives of the army and navy.
Crown Prince Hirohito was to-day received in audience by the Emperor, who decorated him with the Grand Order of Merit and the Grand Cordon of the Chrysanthemum.
