Federal Authorities in Doubt About Holding Frenchman's Machine.
TUCSON, Arizona, May 8.— A war aeroplane, alleged to have been bought in Los Angeles for use by the Sonora State troops which are investing Guaymas, was captured last night by Deputy Marshal Johnson at Pike's Ranch, twenty miles south of here.
When the Federal officer came upon the aviators the machine, which was dismantled and occupied five crates, was on a wagon drawn by four horses. It was headed toward the border.
Didier Masson, the aviator, and Thomas Dean, his mechanic, insisted that they intended to test the eighty horse power machine, trying the flat country to avoid accident.
Unless it can be proved that they intended flying over the border to assist the insurgents, officials think that no evidence is available to warrant their arrest or holding the machine.
