Stories of Smuggled Arms at Matanzas Prove Baseless.
Special Cable to The New York Times.
HAVANA, April 30.— The Governor of Matanzas Province denies the reports that arms have been landed near the City of Matanzas. He wired to-day that his investigations showed that the supposed arms were empty boxes purchased in Matanzas by natives, who were unloading them along the coast with the idea of using the lumber for building shacks.
Reports that a revolution is breeding have received wide publicity, but all investigations regarding the landing of arms at various places are resulting like the one described. There is not the slightest indication that the Liberals have any intention of starting a revolution now.
