New York Times 100 years ago today, May 2, 1913:
But Are Defeated with Heavy Loss — French Lose 18 Killed.
RABAT, May 1.— A French column, part of Col. Mangin's forces, fought a fierce engagement on April 28 at Sidiali with a strong body of tribesmen affiliated with the rebel El Hiba.
The French troops were ambushed, but succeeded in repulsing the tribesmen after seven hours.
The French lost eighteen killed and forty-one wounded. The rebel casualty list was very large.
