Portugal Wants Panama Cable.

New York Times 100 years ago today, May 11, 1913:
LISBON, May 10.— The Chamber of Deputies to-day authorized the signatures of a contract between the Portuguese government and the European and Azores Telegraph Company for the laying of two cables between the Azores and the United States, and one between the Azores and England.
