Promises Atlantic Flight.

New York Times 100 years ago today, May 6, 1913:
Jack McGee Says He Will Start from Newport on July 4.

    LONDON, May 5.— Jack McGee, an American airman, cabled to-day his entry in The Daily Mail's $50,000 transatlantic aeroplane flight. His message was:

    Pawtucket, R. I., Monday.
    I will cross the Atlantic in a Burgess-Wright aeroplane about July 4, starting from Newport. R. I.

    Alan R. Hawley, President of the Aero Club or America, said last night that he had never heard of an airman named Jack McGee, and that he did not believe he was on the club's list of qualified pilots.
