Gomez Forms Two Armies.

New York Times 100 years ago today, August 5, 1913:
Calls Thousands of Recruits to Fight Against Castro.
CARACAS, Aug. 4.— President Juan Vicente Gomez to-day issued the following proclamation:
"Castro, the former dictator, having disturbed the peace of the country, I myself will take the field and will reestablish order. I know that every General, officer, and soldier will do his duty."
An army of veterans and some thousands of recruits is being mobilized at the town of Maracay, fifty miles to the southwest of the capital. It is believed that it will attack Coro in the State of Falcon, to drive out Castro.
Another army is being assembled at Barquisimeto, the capital of the State of Lara, 165 miles to the southwest of Caracas. This will endeavor to cut off Castro's escape into the interior.
Although business here has come to a standstill, and stock values have gone down, the people express confidence that the Government will be able to suppress the rebellion.
