Navy Yard Wins Gun Order.

New York Times 100 years ago today, November 25, 1912:
Washington Bid Below Private Firms — Arsenal Tender Also Lower.
    WASHINGTON. Nov. 24.— The Washington Navy Yard is the lowest bidder for the construction of the first five-inch and four-inch guns for use in the 1913 naval construction programme. Bids were asked for five five-inch and ten four-inch guns. The Washington yard bid was $7,202 each for the five-inch and $6,370 each for the four-inch guns. The Watervliet Arsenal, New York, which was the second lowest bidder, offered to construct the five-inch guns for $8,130, and the four-inch for $6,709 each.
