Pessimism Rife In Berlin.

New York Times 100 years ago today, November 25, 1912:
Official Assurances of Peace Are Received with Skepticism.
By Marconi Transatlantic Wireless Telegraph to The New York Times.
BERLIN, Nov. 24.— Another week of war alarums and the growing stringency of the money market combined to give a pessimistic tone to the Boerse operations.
They were of so discouraging a character that the conspicuously favorable reports from industrial regions proved futile. Trading, when not at a standstill, took place amid weakening prices. All issues closed yesterday several points lower than the week previous.
Official quarters continue to shower peace assurances upon the financial world and to rebuke the latter's irrepressible pessimism, but diplomacy is not in particularly good standing with investors as regards prophecy.
Unless the week opens with clearly defined hopes of peace between Austria, Russia, and Servia a recurrence of the recent panic would not be surprising.
