Infernal Machine Kills.

New York Times 100 years ago today, June 18, 1913:
Two Women Mangled When Package Received by Mail Explodes.
SHERBROOKE, Quebec, May 17.— An infernal machine killed Mrs. Theodore Bilodeau, wife of a contractor, to-day and mortally wounded Miss Bilodeau, her sister-in-law. The explosion hurled the latter across the room, and completely severed one arm from her body. The house was wrecked.
The package, about six inches long, arrived in the mail about noon, and the two women were bending over it, untying the strings, when it exploded. A search of the room revealed pieces of a letter which evidently had been inside the package. The writing was in French. The police hope that by piecing together the fragments they may be able to trace the writer.
