Hurriedly Equip Cruiser.

New York Times 100 years ago today, October 29, 1912:
Baltimore, Under Secret Orders, Made Ready for Action in 48 Hours.
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 28.— The United States cruiser Baltimore, attached to the Atlantic reserve fleet at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, was put into condition to-day to sail at forty-eight hours' notice.
Acting on orders from Washington, the skeleton crew was augmented to its full strength of 400 officers and men, and the necessary supplies of food and ammunition were taken on board. Capt. J. C. Phelps of the battleship Iowa was detailed to command the Lattimore.
The destination of the vessel is not made known, but rumors at the yard were to the effect that it would be sent to some Mexican port or to the scene of the Turkish disturbances to protect American interests.
