Will Not Accept Huerta.

New York Times 100 years ago today, February 19, 1913:

Northern Rebels Would Rather Have De la Barra or Trevino.

LAREDO. Texas, Feb. 18.— When informed to-night that the Madero Government had been overthrown and Gen. Huerta named Provisional President, Col. Pascual Orozco, Sr., and Col. Andres Garza Galan, revolutionary leaders in the North of Mexico, said the revolutionists in that section would not approve of Huerta, and would continue the rebellion unless another was chosen to manage the affairs of Mexico, preferably Señor de la Barra or Gen. Geronimo Trevino.
The two leaders who are in command of the rebel forces in control of Nuevo Laredo issued a joint statement in which they said:

"We cannot believe that under any circumstances would Felix Diaz accept that Gen. revolutionists of the north, both here and in the state of Chihuahua, are in favor of either one of two men for temporary President — Señor Francisco Leon de la Barra or Gen. Geronimo Trevino, and in the event Gen. Huerta has been proclaimed temporary president, will continue their campaign until a man entirely agreeable to the entire country is selected to manage the affairs of Mexico."

Neither would comment further relative to plans for continuing the rebellion.
