Australia Opposes Rebate Plan.

New York Times 100 years ago today, July 19, 1912:
    MELBOURNE, July 18.— The House of Representatives to-day unanimously adopted a motion setting forth that "in the opinion of this House any system providing for a bonus or a rebate of canal dues to American shipping using the Panama Canal would be detrimental to the interests of Australia." Premier Fisher said he hoped that the matter would be amicably settled by the Governments of the United States and Great Britain.
