Meddlers In Mexico.

New York Times 100 years ago today, December 24, 1912:
There have been many rumors of American interference in Mexican political affairs in the last two years. Among Mexicans there is naturally a strong disposition to attribute this meddling to the American people generally and their Government. We need not be surprised by this error. It is common for Americans who have trouble in Mexico to lay the blame for it to all the Mexicans and their Government.
According to the Washington dispatches both President Taft and the Senate's special committee have recently obtained clear evidence of the meddling of Americans in Mexico. Whether or not the money paid over to Gustavo Madero, after the revolution, and as yet unaccounted for, was to repay a private American loan, there is evidence of such loans and of gifts from the citizens of this country. There is also evidence that the enemies of Madero have received financial aid from Americans. Revelations of this sort may well tend to modify the proposed note of the Secretary of State to the Mexican Government.
