New York Times 100 years ago today, July 14, 1912:
Official Denial of His Interest in the Great German Lines.
By Marconi Transatlantic Wireless Telegraph to The New York Times.
BERLIN, July 13.— To-night's official North German Gazette denies the statements published in the Zeitschrift earlier in the week to the effect that the Kaiser is the owner of between $2,500,000 and $3,000,000 of the shares of the Hamburg-American and the North German Lloyd Lines.
The Government organ declares that his Majesty's fortune includes shares of neither of the German lines, and rejects in the sharpest possible manner the Zeitschrift's insinuation that the Kaiser favors, or has favored, the interests of Hamburg against Prussia, wherein the Port of Emden is located.
