Agrees To Guard Nicaragua.

New York Times 100 years ago today, September 16, 1912:
State Department, Says Report, Will Uphold Government.
SAN JUAN DEL SUR, Nicaragua, Sept. 15.— A note from the State Department of the United States has been handed to the Nicaraguan Government by Minister Weitzel. It calls attention to the fact that American planters and merchants in Nicaragua have asked for protection, and declares that the United States will protect American lives and property and will not tolerate any movement calculated to re-establish Zelayaism, and so would lend effective moral support to the cause of the Government, legally constituted, as according to the Washington conventions it is obliged to use its influence to maintain peace and oppose the vicious elements that incited Louis Mena to rebel and violate his promises to his own Government.
