Masts For Submarines.

New York Times 100 years ago today, September 15, 1912:
French Improvement Will Make Wireless Communication Easy.
Special Cable to The New York Times.
PARIS, Sept. 14.— Experiments, involving a thorough revolution in the methods of wireless communication from submarines have just been carried out successfully by Lieut. Patti du Clam, a wireless expert appointed by the Ministry of Marine.
Hitherto errors of all sorts have been made aboard the vessels in carrying out the orders of the flagship, as the apparatus aboard submarines could only receive and was unable to repeat messages.
Following on Lieut. du Clam's report, M. Delcassé issued telegraphic orders that all submarines be fitted with receiving masts, similar to those on gunboats, but so made as to be easily folded and firmly fixed to the deck, while traveling below the surface.
