Wilson Will Carry Nearly Every State, Predicts New Yorker.
Special to The New York Times.
INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., Aug. 20.— While disclaiming all ability as a prophet, W. G. McAdoo of New York, Vice Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is enthusiastic over the Democratic prospects at the coming election. While he was in the city to-day for the Marshall notification ceremonies, he said:
"I am glad to say that Chairman McCombs is getting better and that he will be able to resume his duties at an early date.
"I am just an ordinary business man, with small knowledge of politics, and have not, therefore, had time to develop the gift of prophecy. Now, there are Hilles of the Republican committee and Perkins of the third-termers, who are veterans in the game, and will doubtless laugh if I essay the role. However, I must learn, and I understand that one of the first things to do in politics is to be bold in the alluring field of prophecy, so this is my qualifying round:
"I prophesy that Wilson and Marshall will carry nearly every State in the Union.
"It is enough to establish my reputation as a real prophet to say that the Electoral College will practically make the election of Wilson and Marshall unanimous. Don't forget to say that I say 'Practically.' The most serious danger for the Democrats is overconfidence."
